CLASS TITLE

Post Overdose Response Team Specialist – Community Paramedic

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS

The purpose of this class is to provide a resource to support the reduction of the impact of Opioids, and other illicit drugs, have on our citizens. The position will provide education, direct assistance and support to those at risk and those experiencing the effects of Opioid addiction. The position will also support the overall mission of the Anderson Fire Department and the City of Anderson.

ESSENTIAL

TASKS

The tasks listed below are those that represent most of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Assists in planning, coordinating, and implementing an effective community risk reduction program across the City of Anderson.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with the public, coworkers and partner agencies.
  • Interact with members of the public in time of need and crisis to provide both immediate and long-term supportive care.
  • Delivers medical response education to first responders and members of the community;
    Emergency Medical Responder, First Aid, CPR, Bloodborne Pathogen and Naloxone Administration.
  • Manages medical equipment cache to include Naloxone storage and distribution.
  • Keeps records and develops required reports of work completed.
  • Supports emergency response efforts including response to fire, medical, rescue, hazmat and other emergency scenes.
  • Attends training, conferences, seminars, and meetings to remain knowledgeable of modern fire suppression, training and prevention methods and administration; maintains required certifications.
  • Performs general administrative / clerical work as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, copying and filing documents, entering and retrieving computer data, attending meetings, etc.
  • Remains available 24 hours per day, seven days per week, for emergency response.

DATA INVOLVEMENT:

Requires planning or directing others in the sequence of major activities and reporting on operations and activities which are very broad in scope.

PEOPLE INVOLVEMENT:

Requires counseling or instructing/training others through explanation, demonstration and supervised practice or making recommendations based on technical expertise.

INVOLVEMENT WITH THINGS:

Requires supervising the activities of those operating or repairing complex machinery or equipment that requires extended training and experience, such as fire engines, fire suppression / rescue equipment, etc., or the application of custom or commercial administrative or other complex software or systems; may involve installation and testing.

COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS

REASONING REQUIREMENTS:

Requires performing supervisory work involving policy and guidelines, solving both people- and work-related problems.

MATHEMATICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires using basic algebra involving variables and formulas and/or basic geometry involving plane and solid figures, circumferences, areas and volumes, and/or computing discounts and interest rates.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

Requires reading journals, manuals and professional publications; speaking informally to groups of co-workers, staff in other organizational agencies, the general public, people in other organizations; presenting training; composing original reports, training and other written materials using proper language, punctuation, grammar and style.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires doing professional-level work requiring the application of principles and practices in a wide range of administrative, technical or managerial methods in the solution of administrative or technical problems; or the coordination of entry-level managerial work; requires general understanding of operating policies and procedures and the ability to apply these to complex administrative problems; requires continuous, close attention for accurate results or frequent exposure to unusual pressures.
