Position: Extrusion Technician I 7pm-7am

Extrusion Technician

Extrusion Techs are responsible for all aspects of production from start to finish. This includes maintaining a clean and safe operating environment, preparing for changeovers, testing product quality, efficiently operating machines, planning materials for production, immediately reporting any concerns/issues with safety, machines, quality, etc. to the appropriate individual, and more. Compensation for this position will be based on skill, and many advancement opportunities will be available.

This may include opportunities within and outside of the Production Department.

Work Schedule

This position works 12-hour shifts, either 7am-7pm or 7pm-7am depending on shift. This schedule works on a 2‑2‑3 schedule (work two, off two, work three, and vice versa). The hours per week will be 36 hours one week and 48 hours the following week, then restart. Additional overtime may be required as necessary for the success of the team.

Safety
  • Understand and follow all safety procedures and policies.
  • Follow all safety rules and procedures established by the company.
  • Immediately report any safety concerns/issues to the appropriate individual.
Responsibilities
  • Set‑up and operate extrusion lines and support high‑quality product.
  • Review order specifications to ensure the correct packaging supplies and raw materials are available to produce a product that meets the customer’s specifications.
  • Observe and check finished film coming off the production lines and take immediate corrective action to eliminate the causes of a sub‑standard product.
  • Remove and package finished rolls from machine.
  • Monitor equipment to ensure it is operating properly and under supervision of the Lead Operator; perform routine maintenance on equipment.
  • Complete daily production paperwork and troubleshoot stoppages and breakdowns.
  • Under the direction of the Lead Operator may train team members on correct operating procedures, safety, and quality policy procedures.
  • Learn and comprehend all equipment so adjustments can be made if/when needed.
Quality
  • Adhere to and comply with Good Manufacturing Practices as outlined at Pregis Films.
  • Perform all aspects of the position to the highest quality.
  • Report any non‑conformance to Supervisor immediately.
  • Know all quality standards and expectations of the position and if not sure, ask the supervisor before continuing.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 2–5 years’ manufacturing experience in a production environment.
  • Knowledge of resins and their properties preferred.
  • Extrusion, W&H Film lines experience preferred.
  • Able to work any 12‑hour shift.
Physical Characteristics
  • Inside work, 90%.
  • Outside work, 10%.
  • Working temperatures ranging from 40‑90°F.
  • Exposure to noise at or above 85 dB, moving machinery/equipment/vehicles, and high places/platforms.
  • Potential exposure to vibration, electrical hazards, and confined/cramped spaces.
  • Required PPE of safety glasses, earplugs, safety‑toe shoes, beard/hair nets, and cut gloves.
  • Constant standing/walking.
  • Frequent sitting.
  • Frequent stooping/squatting.
  • Frequent kneeling/crawling/bending.
  • Frequent lifting/pushing/pulling/carrying of 30‑50 lbs. for up to 100 feet.
  • Frequent reaching high, low, and out.
  • Frequent stair climbing.
  • Frequent typing/keyboarding.
  • Repetitive and frequent use of wrist/hand/fingers.
  • Good correctable visual acuity with both eyes.
  • Good visual perception of color, depth, and fields.
  • Good reading and writing abilities.
  • Required forklift driving.
  • Good hearing with both ears.
  • Good use of hands/feet.
