Technical Documentation Author​/Service Architect

We are seeking an experienced SC Cleared Technical Documentation Author/Service Architect for an outside IR35 contract to support the documentation and assurance of existing live services as they transition from MOD Digital & Data ownership.
Working closely with technical SMEs and customer stakeholders, you will capture current service architectures, technical configurations, and operational processes, producing documentation that meets MOD standards and is suitable for Technical Design Office (TDO) review and assurance activities.

Key Responsibilities
 
* Produce MOD-compliant High Level Design (HLD) documents for existing live services, including Defence Gateway.
 
* Create supporting Low Level Design (LLD), operational and service documentation.
 
* Develop Business Process Guides and other supporting documentation.
 
* Facilitate workshops and interviews with SMEs and customer stakeholders to capture current-state architectures and processes.
 
* Ensure documentation accurately reflects live service delivery, support, and operational models.
 
* Incorporate Secure by Design principles where appropriate.
 
* Support governance, assurance, and review activities, addressing feedback from the TDO and key stakeholders.
Essential Skills & Experience
 
* Active SC Clearance.
 
* Proven experience writing MOD or wider UK Government technical documentation.
 
* Strong background producing HLDs, LLDs, and operational process guides.
 
* Excellent understanding of service architecture and technical design principles.
 
* Ability to rapidly absorb and document complex technical information.
 
* Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
 
* Experience working within Defence governance and assurance frameworks.

Desirable Experience
 
* Knowledge of Secure by Design principles.
 
* Experience with in Defence Digital or MOD Digital & Data environments.
 
* Background supporting service transition, onboarding, or service migration activities.
