Summer Museum Education - Teaching Assistant
Join Phillips Academy as a Teaching Assistant for the Summer Session, supporting students academically, socially, and emotionally during a five‑week residential program.
Base Pay Range$3,850.00/yr – $4,800.00/yr
Program OverviewThe Addison Gallery of American Art collaborates with the 60+ courses offered during the Summer Session to integrate museum visits into the curriculum. The Teaching Assistant facilitates guided tours, supports lesson planning, and may also serve as house counselor and activity coach.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct two to three museum tours per day, Monday‑Friday, for classes across all subject areas.
- Prepare research and lesson plans for each class on Mondays.
- Support students as a house counselor in dormitories: manage evening duties, coordinate dorm meetings, facilitate activities, and communicate with families.
- Coach an afternoon activity or Connections group (Monday‑Friday).
- Attend weekly faculty meetings, TA cohort meetings, and program meetings; chaperone on‑campus social events and off‑campus trips.
- Maintain a full‑time presence during the semester (35–40 hours per week).
- Completed at least three years of undergraduate education.
- Experience working with middle‑ or high‑school‑aged students.
- Strong interest in interdisciplinary teaching and critical thinking support across subject areas.
- Creative, outside‑the‑box thinking and ability to make connections.
- Curiosity about museum behind‑the‑scenes work.
- Appreciation of the mission and culture of independent, residential, college‑preparatory schools.
- Experience in a collaborative environment.
- Flexibility and adaptability in a fast‑paced, dynamic setting.
- Ability to respond to diverse audience needs and apply feedback.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to anti‑racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
The salary range is $3,850 to $4,800 per year, commensurate with education and experience. Salary offers may increase based on program demands or applicant qualifications.
