As a fully competent engineer in all conventional aspects of the subject matter of the functional area of the assignments, plans and conduct work require judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
Devises new approaches to problems encountered. Responsible for overall supervision of the project assigned. Resolves complex day-to-day problems of a mostly technical nature.
This position will often serve as the contact person with the client, other design professionals, and contractors. When in the role of project leader, the incumbent will coordinate and schedule the work of the project team members. Gives direction to less experienced Designers and Engineers. Assists in the development of staff.

- Independently performs most assignments with instructions as to the general results expected.
- Works alongside project engineers and Project Managers.
- May not exceed budgeted hours on task, change the scope of work or deviate from any part of the contractual document without approval of Project Manager or Group Leader.
- Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates detailed phases of the engineering work in a part of a major project or in a total project of moderate scope.
- Perform work that involves conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features.
- Proficient use of computer spreadsheets and design programs for engineering analysis and equipment.
- Assists in the preparation of proposals in a timely manner and submits to the client.

- Requires sufficient professional experience to assure competence as a fully trained Engineer capable of working on extremely complex projects.
- Must be able to communicate verbal and written instructions/directions to the project.
- Must be at least a member and on a committee of a trade‑specific organization (ASHRAE, ASPE, AIA, etc.).
- Must be ready to deliver at least one existing prepared AIA credit presentation, white paper or article per year.
Sitting for excessive periods of time and, depending on the assigned project, there may be occasional bending, crawling, carrying a ladder, climbing, and walking.
