The School Nurse will support student health needs within the school environment, promote wellness initiatives, and collaborate with school staff, families, and medical providers. This position plays a critical role in ensuring a safe and healthy learning environment for all students.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide direct nursing care to students, including first aid, illness and injury assessment, and emergency response
- Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and district protocols
- Monitor chronic health conditions and develop Individualized Health Care Plans (IHPs)
- Participate in student evaluations, health screenings, and special education meetings as appropriate
- Document nursing services, maintain accurate health records, and ensure compliance with state and district guidelines
- Collaborate with administrators, teachers, counselors, and related service providers to support student well‑being
- Communicate effectively with families regarding student health concerns
- Support infection control practices and school-wide health initiatives
- Assist in health education, prevention efforts, and staff training as needed
- Active Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license required
- School-based and/or pediatric nursing experience strongly preferred
- Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced school environment
- Strong clinical judgment, organization, and communication skills
- Must meet all state and district background and onboarding requirements
