Join to apply for the Volunteer Caregiver role at Tamarisk, Inc.
Our well‑trained volunteers quietly enter the lives of persons faced with life‑threatening illness by offering compassionate, life‑enhancing friendship, often assisting with non‑medical tasks or projects. In addition, we are able to provide much‑needed respite to the caregivers who are coping with the relentless demands created by illness. Included under the umbrella of life‑threatening illnesses are chronic life‑limiting illnesses such as heart disease, Lou Gehrig’s (ALS), Parkinson’s, Huntington’s, and Alzheimer’s;
and acute life‑threatening illnesses such as cancer. Tamarisk supports people of any age who may or may not be eligible for other services, and often supplements palliative or hospice care services.
Tamarisk volunteers provide regularly‑scheduled respite for caregivers within the family and companionship for the patient. For approximately 2–4 hours a week Tamarisk volunteers assure the safety and well‑being of the patient (companion) while the family caregiver is occupied or away.
During home visits, Tamarisk volunteer caregivers socialize, play cards and other games, share a movie or listen to music with the companion. They might prepare a light meal, run errands, shop for groceries, help with housekeeping tasks or read quietly to the companion while he or she rests. The companion's day‑to‑day needs form the agenda.
Tamarisk has seen a significant increase in the number of families contacting us for support this past year; we have families waiting for your help!
