Position: Nurse Clinician III (RN) - ED Angleton (7P-7A)

Position: Registered Nurse – Emergency Department (ED)

Minimum Qualifications: RN with at least two years of clinical RN experience, current Texas nursing license (or valid permit), and BLS certification.

  • ACLS & PALS/ENPC
  • TNCC (must be obtained within six months of hire for non‑experienced ED nurses)

Job Summary: The RN will provide competent, patient‑centered care in the emergency department, functioning as part of an interprofessional team. The role involves decision‑making, managing unexpected situations, and serving as a resource for junior clinicians.

Essential Job Functions Professional Practice & Nursing Process
  • Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents daily patient care.
  • Identifies nursing diagnoses, develops individualized care plans, and revises as needed.
  • Executes physician orders and administers medications and treatments in accordance with UTMB policies.
  • Performs routine technical procedures in the assigned specialty area.
Patient & Family Teaching & Health Promotion
  • Provides basic patient/family instruction and healthcare teaching based on identified learning needs.
  • Identifies the impact of family dynamics on care.
  • Utilizes evidence‑based resources and Teach‑Back methods to ensure understanding.
Care Coordination & Delegation
  • Plans, coordinates, and prioritizes patient care activities according to skill level and complexity.
  • Maintains safety and continuity of care through bedside shift reports, hand‑off tools, and interdisciplinary rounding.
  • Demonstrates effective time management and appropriate delegation.
  • Uses technology competently to support patient care.
Professional Performance & Ethics
  • Identifies ethical situations and seeks assistance when necessary.
  • Delivers culturally sensitive care and serves as a patient advocate.
Communication & Collaboration
  • Supports a healthy work environment through respectful communication with all team members.
  • Collaborates with the inter‑professional team to coordinate patient care.
Leadership & Innovation
  • Recognizes and supports unit and institutional leadership, strategic initiatives, and fiscal responsibility.
  • Participates in shared leadership and unit‑based quality improvement activities.
  • Engages in evidence‑based practice, continuing education, and research projects.
Quality, Resources & Safety
  • Identifies patient safety concerns and reports appropriately.
  • Engages in unit quality metrics and improvement activities.
  • Practices personal self‑care, safety, and infection control measures.
General Requirements
  • Complete required competence‑based orientation tools by initial performance evaluation.
  • Participate in ongoing self‑evaluation and annual competency and performance reviews.
  • Perform point‑of‑care testing (POCT) and maintain clean, safe environment.
  • Practice basic cost containment, maintain accurate documentation, and meet compliance requirements for health screening, training, attendance, safety, and CPR.
  • Adhere to internal controls, reporting structure, and electronic communication systems.

Salary Range: Salary commensurate with experience.
