As a Customer Service Specialist, you will keep the department well‑stocked and well‑maintained while providing superior customer service. You’ll stock and properly rotate products on a daily basis and maintain all department and safety / sanitation standards. Once eligible, you may become an Owner in the company, so we seek commitment, hard work, and a focus on quality and customer service.

Responsibilities

• General
  • Stock and rotate items as needed.
  • Assist with inventory control; load, unload, and move product.
  • Organize, clean, and prepare back area for the night crew and incoming trucks.
  • Organize merchandise on pallets to make the department presentable to the public.
  • Ensure integrity of shelf tags and signage; create / prepare signage as needed.
  • Maintain standards in shrink, safety, inventory control, and sanitation.
  • Check shipments for out‑of‑date and damaged product to ensure freshness and quality.
  • Build, stock, maintain, and take down store displays.
  • Perform Customer Service Assistant duties as needed.
• Customer Service
  • Provide superior customer service.
  • Answer customer questions regarding products and assist them with selections; help customers locate store merchandise.
• Sales
  • Merchandise product effectively.
  • Use suggestive selling techniques to meet customer needs and build department sales.
• Food Safety / Sanitation
  • Clean and sanitize sales floor, display cases, prep areas, and equipment.
  • Properly handle and maintain the operation of all equipment.
  • Comply with departmental SOPs and store operating procedures.
• Additional Department‑Specific Responsibilities / Pre‑requisites
  • Beauty – knowledge of beauty and cosmetic aids.
  • Drugstore / General Merchandise – prepare tags and signs as needed.
  • Entertainment – knowledge in the audio / video field; specialty products, movies, music, electronics, and video games.
  • Grocery – organize, clean, and prepare back area; prepare tags and signs as needed.
  • Texas Backyard – basic knowledge of chemical recommendations; nursery business and plant recommendations; complete Green Thumb training (H‑E‑B internal training).

Qualifications & Requirements

• Minimum age 18 (mandatory).
• High school diploma (or equivalent).
• 1+ years of experience.
• Completion of Company Orientation and Safety Training.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Reading and writing skills.
• Planning and organizing skills.
• Communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to function in a fast‑paced, retail environment with detailed and precise tasks.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions

• Constantly reach at waist, grasp; frequently stand, walk; occasionally reach at overhead, shoulder, knee, floor; occasionally bend, squat, crouch, kneel, climb stairs, climb ladders, twist, push / pull with arms; perform fine motor movements.
• Occasionally be exposed to cold, loud noise, and wet conditions.
• Demonstrate the ability to lift 15–85 lbs depending on department (e.g., 30 lbs for Beauty, 15 lbs for Drugstore, 40 lbs for Dairy, 60 lbs for Frozen, 65 lbs for Texas Backyard).
• Partners shall never lift beyond their personal safe lifting limit; seek assistance when items are too heavy.
