Description
Hanwha Qcells USA Corp (Qcells USA), headquartered in Irvine, CA, provides utility‑scale modules, solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage systems (BESS) project development along with Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) services for solar and BESS projects nationwide. Qcells USA delivers turnkey solutions encompassing the entire project lifecycle. The Mechanical Pile Superintendent II is responsible for overseeing field operations, ensuring safety, productivity, schedule, quality, commissioning, and coordination with other superintendent and project leaders on the job site.
The position reports to the Director of Projects or other senior management personnel. Travel up to 75% is required.
Essential Job Function & Responsibilities
- Direct solar/construction personnel and/or installation subcontractors to complete the project on schedule, within budget, with quality workmanship that conforms to original plans and specifications.
- Coordinate personnel, material, and equipment needed to meet schedules.
- Support the team with planning and utilization of proper means and methods for activities.
- Analyze situations, identify and forecast pertinent problems and evaluate realistic options; recommend/implement appropriate course of action.
- Follow and implement the company’s Health, Safety & Environmental Policy.
- Identify welding certification, training and experience appropriate for assignment scope.
- Coordinate and implement resources and activities necessary to maintain a safe and quality execution.
- Assure all work undertaken is within approved scope boundaries and is in full compliance.
- Coordinate with pile suppliers.
- Advise site teams on tooling and equipment required to complete the task.
- Identify testing required per project scope of work.
- Communicate with engineering parties to meet commissioning and construction requirements.
- Manage manpower needed to complete project assignment.
- Communicate with surveyor and understand surveying equipment.
- Maintain and supervise pile drivers and train new operators.
- Coordinate with material manager for all pile staging and receiving.
- Pile driver experience strongly preferred.
- Regular attendance in accordance with company’s attendance policy and supervisory assignment is an essential job duty requirement for this position.
- Perform other duties and special projects, as assigned by management.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 7–10 years of professional experience supporting construction of major projects, preferably in the building of power stations or supply networks, or other utility‑scale construction projects.
- Solar PV or wind power project experience, preferred.
- Experience operating different manufacturer pile drivers.
- Willingness to travel and relocate from project to project.
- Excellent skills in MS Project or comparable project management tool; strong technical aptitude, including knowledge of software development methodologies and processes.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Fluent in written and spoken English; excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience reviewing mechanical manuals of installation and design technical packages; understand top of pile designs.
- Assertive, able to cope with pressure, and maintain a team‑player attitude.
- Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines.
- Attention to detail and ability to work in a time‑conscious and time‑effective manner.
- May have to interact with Owner’s Field Representative and outside testing agencies.
- Experience operating construction equipment, pile drivers and GPS surveying equipment.
- Knowledge of installation methods for the different mechanical systems in the industry.
- Hammer operators (5–10), pile tender crew (5–10), shake‑out staging crew (5), string line top of pile (5).
- Transport hammers from site to site.
- Calibrate hammers.
- Preventative maintenance / grease / fuel / warranty tasks.
