Senior Service Engineer – Des Moines, IA (Remote)
OverviewIn this role, you will execute medium to high complexity service work as per work instructions and ABB guidelines. You will deliver excellent customer service, working with customers to identify opportunities in the installed base to improve system performance and operational performance.
Responsibilities- Provide knowledge of and conduct work activities in compliance with ABB HSE, ABB Way, and Safety Manual & Safety policy at all times.
- Hands‑on execution of projects—including startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, engineering, design, and repair of Power Delivery equipment such as transformers, switch gear, OCBs, circuit breakers, busways, UPS, ATS, PLCs, relays, Power Management Controls systems, and other power‑related equipment and controls.
- Lead outages with other field engineers, technicians, and contractors, performing project management, acting as lead site engineer or site project manager, and performing administrative functions such as writing technical reports, ordering materials, securing quotations, preparing job status reports, customer reports, time sheets, and expense sheets on a timely basis.
- Plan, organize, and perform multifunctional field assignments in designated areas of expertise, directing the work of other field engineers and craft labor as required, in a timely and efficient manner.
- Develop and expand technical knowledge and expertise, recognizing industry standards for engineering ability.
- Plan, prepare, and/or instruct internal and external training programs as required to impart field engineering and product knowledge in your area of specialization.
- Perform administrative functions in a timely manner, including writing technical reports, ordering materials, securing quotations, preparing job status reports, customer reports, time sheets, expense tracking sheets, and cost‑control activities.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or High School Diploma/GED with a minimum of 10 additional years of related engineering/field experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of Field Engineering Experience.
- Willingness and ability to travel approximately 75% as required.
- Knowledge of industrial customer base in the geographical area.
- Technical skills in testing of power distribution and delivery: low voltage and medium voltage breakers, switch gear, relays, and transformers.
- Experience in repair and refurbishment of LV and MV circuit breakers (OEM equipment such as Siemens, GE, ABB, Square
D, Multilin relays, and Schweitzer Relays). - Technical skills in testing, commissioning, startup and troubleshooting of medium voltage synchronous machines (including excitation systems), control systems, and PLCs – a plus.
- Work authorization permitting employment in the US.

Salary range: $79,800 – $127,680 annually.
