Midwest Blaster Training and Development Specialist

Reporting to the Blasting Excellence Manager, the Blaster Training and Development Specialist supports the implementation and delivery of Quick Supply's blaster training initiatives, focusing on building field-level competencies and maintaining high standards of safety and technical skills. Working under the direction of the Blasting Excellence Manager, this role plays a key part in conducting training, coaching field staff, and ensuring training efforts align with company goals for operational excellence and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in assessing field personnel to identify skill levels, performance gaps, and individual training needs.
  • Deliver and facilitate classroom, on-the-job, and hands-on technical training for new and existing blasters using established training programs and materials.
  • Provide real-time coaching and mentorship in the field to improve blasting techniques and ensure safe practices.
  • Work closely with the Blasting Excellence Manager to revise and update training content, ensuring relevance and effectiveness based on field feedback and emerging industry practices.
  • Administer evaluations, observations, and assessments to measure learning outcomes and practical competency.
  • Track training participation and certifications using company systems, ensuring records are accurate and up to date.
  • Support the introduction and proper use of blasting technology and tools in daily operations.
  • Encourage a culture of peer learning by facilitating open discussions around lessons learned, both successes and failures.
  • Participate in post-incident reviews to help identify training-related improvements or additional coaching needs.
  • Stay informed of basic regulatory requirements (e.g., ATF, DOT, MSHA, OSHA) and ensure field training aligns with compliance standards.
  • Provide feedback and suggestions to the Blasting Excellence Manager for the continuous improvement of training programs.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mining engineering or related discipline. Demonstrated qualification by years of relevant industry experience is acceptable.
  • 5-7 years of field experience in the explosives industry; particularly blasting practices with a solid understanding of products, equipment, and safety procedures.
  • Prior experience delivering technical or safety training is preferred.
  • Expert knowledge and practical application of blasting best practices.
  • Strong and demonstrated practical knowledge of relevant blasting regulatory requirements in all applications (mining, quarrying, construction, pipeline, seismic).
  • Ability to transfer knowledge to others in a way that results in clear improvement in identified competencies.
  • Extensive knowledge of ATF, DOT, MSHA, OSHA and other state regulatory safety and compliance requirements to mitigate risk.
  • Possesses strong collaborative and influencing skills with the ability to make important recommendations that have impact to the company.
  • Requires ability to pass a background check conducted by the ATF to possess and handle explosives.
  • This position works in both outside field and office environments. Up to 40% travel year-round in all weather conditions is necessary by air and/or vehicle to company locations, customer job sites, and offices.
  • Must be able to walk moderate to long distances at field and customer locations on rough terrain with uneven surfaces.
  • Frequent exposure to heavy equipment while working on quarry and mine properties.
  • Requires sitting, stooping, use of hands and fingers, ability to talk and hear.
  • May need to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds repeatedly.
