Under the supervision of a higher classified employee, performs professional accounting work, which requires a thorough knowledge of governmental accounting practices. Works closely with departments in all areas of grant fiscal management and reporting.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES- Develops accounting systems and bookkeeping procedures in accordance with departmental needs and standard governmental accounting practices.
- Grant monitoring; track grant expenditures and reimbursements in accordance with grantor contract.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly grant reports. Perform sub-recipient monitoring as needed.
- Assist departmental grants staff with grant reconciliation, problem solving, grant management training, grant financial system/Excel technical support and preparing monthly reports.
- Close grants at calendar year end and at end of grant period.
- Prepare grants for County's annual audit including tie-out sheets for each grant. May accrue expenditures and revenue.
- Assist management on special projects.
- Assist in the preparation of the County's comprehensive annual financial report. (CAFR)
- Assist external auditors; respond to questions as it relates to work performed.
- Drafts letters and memos related to accounting matters, and answers telephone inquiries.
- Maintains liaison with other County accounting staff to coordinate transactions, activities, and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Using sound, independent judgment within established policy and procedural guidelines.
- Preparing clear, concise and effective written materials.
- Maintaining accurate records and files.
- Entering and retrieving information from a computer with sufficient speed and accuracy to perform the required work.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
Duties require sufficient mobility to work in a normal office setting and standard office equipment including a computer, vision to read printed materials and a computer monitor, and hearing and speech sufficient to communicate in person or over the telephone.

EDUCATIONPossession of a Bachelor's degree or its equivalent in business or accounting.
EXPERIENCEMinimum of 1-2 years professional accounting experience. Public agency experience is desirable.
