Overview
The Division of Nephrology, Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI is seeking a transplant nephrology fellow candidate for the academic year 2026–2027. Our center is a nationally renowned large multi-organ transplant center that performs over 250 kidney transplants a year. We participate in national and global paired exchange programs and have an active pancreas transplant program.
ProgramDescription
The Transplant Nephrology Fellowship Training Program provides comprehensive clinical training. The trainee will acquire expansive experience in all aspects of transplantation including pre-kidney and pancreas transplant evaluation, inpatient and outpatient transplant recipient management, living donor evaluations, kidney graft biopsies (we perform more than 500 biopsies/year) and organ offer evaluations. In addition, the trainee will also work with HLA specialists, pathologists, as well as on transplant protocol and quality improvement projects.
The transplant will attend didactic lectures, journal clubs, clinical conferences, M&M conferences, QAPI meetings, Selection committee meetings, and pathology conferences. The program fulfills the requirements established by the Organ Procurement and Transplant Network (OPTN) for individuals to serve as Primary Kidney and Pancreas physician for any transplant program in U.S.
- Supervise general nephrology fellows during in-patient rotation along with transplant faculty.
- In the latter portion of the training, practice independently as a transplant provider.
- Contribute to an active recipient and donor database and archived bio-samples collection.
- Participate in research projects leveraging the database.
- Engage in ongoing education through participation in conferences and meetings.
No call for the first 6 months. Call only when practicing independently in the latter half of the fellowship (1–2 months).
RequirementsApplicant should be an American citizen or Alien Resident (Green Card bearer). J1 and H1B visa status are not acceptable
