KLA's Physics Modeling Group in Ann Arbor is on the lookout for an innovative Research Scientist with a passion for stress, vibration, vibro‑acoustic, and thermal modeling. Join a team that's at the forefront of developing groundbreaking semiconductor inspection tools, employing multi‑physics simulations to solve sophisticated engineering challenges! You'll collaborate with experts in fluid dynamics, structural mechanics, and optics to improve system performance and minimize noise and vibration.

Our ideal candidate has a robust background in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and vibrations and vibro‑acoustic modeling, with a consistent record of crafting intricate systems. A key part of this role involves working closely with R&D and Engineering teams to define modeling requirements and execution plans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Apply structural vibration and vibro‑acoustic modeling to drive the development of next‑generation inspection and metrology tools.
  • Perform modal analysis, harmonic response simulations, and transient vibration simulations using FEA tools.
  • Integrate vibration models with thermal and fluid simulations to assess coupled effects on system performance.
  • Apply simulations based on multiple physical models and establish correlations with experimental data.
  • Conduct root‑cause analysis of vibration‑related and thermo‑mechanical issues, proposing design improvements.
  • Prepare detailed modeling plans, schedules, and summary reports, and maintain alignment through effective communication with collaborators.
  • Lead and drive modeling engagement with engineering development teams, while mentoring junior team members.
  • Develop and maintain modeling standards and a capability development roadmap.
Qualifications
  • Education in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field.
  • Hands‑on experience in applying modeling to design sophisticated systems.
  • Proficiency in FEA tools (e.g., Abaqus, ANSYS, NASTRAN).
  • Strong understanding of solid and structural mechanics, numerical methods, and differential equations.
  • Experience with vibration testing and data acquisition systems is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify sophisticated problems and guide execution.
  • Demonstrates a collaborative attitude with a strong history of partnering effectively with teams across both domestic and global locations.
  • Previous experience with semiconductor or precision‑instrumentation systems is desirable.
  • Ability to travel for training and to support development teams in various locations.
Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate (Academic) Degree and related work experience of 3 years;
