Overview
The employee will be responsible for a variety of functions related to supervising offenders, coaching to help those under supervision address their needs, and learning new skills that lead to a more prosocial lifestyle and public protection. Responsibilities include preparing background reports on offenders convicted in Circuit Court to be used in determining sentences and supervising offenders placed on community supervision through court-ordered probation or parole from a state correctional facility.
The employee may supervise a caseload that may include: sex offenders, offenders on electronic monitoring (including GPS), gender-specific cases, mentally ill offenders, Interstate Compact, or other specialized caseloads as designated by the Deputy Director of Field Operations. The employee may be assigned as an embedded agent with a local law enforcement agency, an Institutional Parole Agent, or an Internet Crimes Against Children Agent (ICAC).
The employee will follow policy, procedures, Director Office Memorandums (DOM), and Guiding Principles of the Department of Corrections to meet departmental goals.
- Prepare background reports on offenders for court and sentencing considerations.
- Supervise a caseload of offenders on community supervision (probation or parole).
- Manage specialized caseloads as designated by leadership.
- Act as an embedded agent with local law enforcement, an Institutional Parole Agent, or an ICAC Agent as assigned.
- Adhere to Department of Corrections policy, procedures, DOMs, and guiding principles.
This position involves regular unsupervised access to probationers or parolees and is a DART (Drug/Alcohol Test Designated) position per Civil Service Rules. Some Institutional Parole Agent roles may involve regular unsupervised access to prisoners more than 50% of the time. Independent judgment is required to carry out assignments with significant impact on services or programs.

Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, correctional administration, criminology, psychology, social work, counseling and guidance, child development, sociology, school social work, social work administration, education psychology, family relations, human services, or theology.
Experience
- Parole/Probation Officer 9:

One year of professional experience working with adult offenders equivalent to a Parole/Probation Officer 9. - Parole/Probation Officer P11:
Two years of professional experience working with adult offenders equivalent to a Parole/Probation Officer, including one year at Parole/Probation Officer 10. - Parole/Probation Officer 9:
Possession of a bachelor’s degree in any major and one year of Department of Corrections experience.
Alternative paths: education level typically acquired through high school plus related corrections experience or equivalent combinations as detailed in the original posting.
