Position Purpose
The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is responsible for reviewing the Physician Order and the reason for the exam, and for preparing the patient for the exam/procedure. The Sonographer performs a variety of specialized medical ultrasound examinations and procedures to obtain high‑quality images for diagnostic interpretation and may also assist the physician with US‑guided procedures. The Sonographer works closely with Ultrasound leadership and Radiologists, performing technical procedures that require independent judgment, integrity, and initiative.

Responsibilities- Explain ultrasound procedures to patients to allay apprehensions and elicit cooperation using care, courtesy, tact, and empathy.
- Review patients’ charts and results from previous ultrasound examinations or other diagnostic studies, and record patients’ personal and medical information.
- Perform diagnostic procedures by adjusting, manipulating, and controlling a variety of complex ultrasound equipment and accessories.
- Consult with the radiologist and experienced associates to determine the need for additional images for comprehensive interpretation.
- Schedule examinations and perform related clerical duties such as answering telephones and locating prior imaging and reports.
- Assist in the performance of aspiration, biopsy, or operating room procedures while maintaining sterilization, isolation, and infection control techniques to prevent contamination.
- Maintain documentation of infection control procedures and activities, adhering to Infection Control policy relating to intravascular probe disinfection and accurate documentation within the department at each location worked.
- Take initiative to improve overall staff education via in‑services, article distributions with peers, student one‑on‑one training sessions, and assisting with new employee orientation/training as assigned.
- Adapt and cooperate with schedule changes and location changes; rotate shifts, weekends, and holidays as deemed appropriate by management, including assignments to other campuses.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Sonography program.
- Registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) with a minimum of one certification or registry‑eligible with certification within one year of hire.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- In‑depth knowledge of cross‑sectional anatomy.
- Ability to produce and evaluate quality images.
- Preferred one year experience as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer.
