Summary

In alignment with Gift of Life Michigan's core purpose and core values, the Manager, Organ Services, manages the organ services staff, assists with the development and implementation of department goals and objectives, and is actively involved in all aspects of the organ donation process.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and internal policies in conjunction with development of evidence based best practice standards.
  • Maintain expertise associated with on-site organ and tissue donor evaluation and retrieval practices such as donor physiological management, organ preservation, staffing, and organ allocation and distribution logistics.
  • Respond to potential donor referrals for evaluation of clinical staff performance.
  • Provide technical assistance with after-hours consultation as needed.
  • In collaboration with the Performance Improvement department, collect and analyze data related to all aspects of the Organ Services department such as staffing, authorization rates, organs recovered per donor, organs transplanted per donor, onsite hours, and staff adherence to established protocols and guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Direct and oversee the day-to-day work of assigned direct reports, set and communicate clear expectations, and provide coaching/guidance as necessary.
  • Provide ongoing formal and informal performance feedback, conducting performance reviews and/or corrective action discussions as necessary.
  • Support the bi-directional communication of organizational and department messaging between leadership and staff.
  • Manage other tasks required of supervisors such as time and attendance, staff change requests, and reporting.
  • Support staff in setting performance goals and in furthering their professional development.
  • Support and contribute to the achievement of organizational and department goals.
  • Promote a healthy and safe work environment.
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience Required
  • Bachelor's degree with 8-10 years of critical care or clinical organ procurement organization (OPO) experience or a combination of education and more than 10 years of critical care or OPO experience.
  • At least one year's experience in management or leadership role (project, team, workgroup).
Preferred
  • Master's degree in related field such as nursing, science, business, or management with 8-10 years of critical care or clinical organ procurement organization.
  • Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator (CPTC) or obtain certification within 12 months of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)
  • Written and verbal fluency in English.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook and Teams and other technology systems used in business operations.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple and competing priorities.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail.
