Bindery Operator - Foresight Group/ULitho

At Foresight Group (DBA ULitho - University Lithoprinters), we bring together the best technology and decades of expertise to put images and messages on just about anything you can imagine. Foresight Group is a subsidiary of the Reseda Group, a wholly‑owned CUSO of Michigan State University Federal Credit Union. With locations in Lansing and Ann Arbor, we specialize in commercial printing, direct mail services, large sign printing, promotional items, and trade show displays.

The Bindery Operator must have experience with the following equipment: saddle‑stitcher, folder, guillotine cutter, trimmer‑stacker, padding machine, drill, shrink wrapper, and creaser/folder, and with package/box for customer pickup or delivery. Extensive experience is not necessary; we are willing to train the right person.

Work Schedule

This is a day/first‑shift role (Monday–Friday) with overtime as needed during peak business times. Other schedules may be available depending on candidate and company needs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Operate machines such as guillotine cutter and saddle stitcher
  • Acquire the job folder and review it for specifications or special instructions that may impact the operation or setting up of the machine or equipment
  • Follow routine procedures in the setting up and operation of the machine or equipment
  • Review the quality of the product continuously to meet the standard that is required
  • Maintain the required records with quantities, quality, and any other required information
  • Cross‑train and learn the lines of associate equipment
  • Assist in the training of employees new to the specific lines
  • Maintain both the bindery equipment and immediate area
  • Report unusual conditions or circumstances to the supervisor or the person in charge
  • Work on job assignments in other manufacturing areas as needed
  • Comply with all OSHA safety requirements
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Required
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Trade School or Co‑op experience in a related field highly preferred.
  • 1‑3 years of Bindery Operator experience preferred.
  • Mechanical skills
    • Machine set up and operation, saddle stitcher and folders
    • Set up and fine‑tune of pocket to ensure minimal drops and stops during operation
    • Set and monitor calipers to ensure quality of finished product
    • Change and adjust trimmer knives
    • Inspect working parts and be able to recognize those that need replacement.
  • Communication skills
  • Use of measuring devices
  • Record data
  • General computer usage to prepare delivery slips, carton labels, and log into software for job costing and time tracking
  • Use of manual and battery‑powered pallet jack
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • May be required to remain in a stationary position for an extended period.
  • Comfort performing tedious tasks – able to perform repetitive tasks for long periods of time.
  • Requires ability to stand for extended periods, handle paper, reach forward, bend and lift boxes or cartons that can weigh up to 50 pounds.
  • Exposure to potentially hazardous conditions. Receives detailed instructions and procedures to be followed to minimize the exposure, including use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) [Safety Glasses, Gloves, and Hearing Protection]
  • This position requires onsite presence at the employee’s assigned location for all scheduled shifts.
