POSITION
DESCRIPTION:
This position operates in a dual capacity as both a Divisional Nurse Manager supporting multiple assigned Divisional Regions and as a Nurse Manager in Clinical Departments.
As Divisional Nurse Manager, works with Division Leadership to develop, write and implement clinical workflows and protocols. Is responsible to support offices when there are nursing shortages, trains all new nurses in assigned regions and leads and organizes Nurse Leadership meetings.
As a Nurse Manager, is responsible for supervising the staff and functions of the Clinical Department, which may include Nurses and Medical Assistants. The goal is to provide daily operational oversight of clinical staff and facilitate enhanced, efficient, effective and coordinated patient care through professional clinical leadership. Oversees clinical policy and procedure compliance. Works closely with the Practice Leadership and provides active and timely feedback on advancement of IHA Quality and Performance Improvement initiatives and site goals.
ESSENTIALJOB FUNCTIONS – DIVISIONAL NURSE MANAGER
- Provides active and timely feedback to Practice Leadership on advancement of IHA Quality and Performance Improvement initiatives and goals at site.
- Is team liaison for provider and staff on communication and clinical site development issues.
- Works with Practice Operations and Quality Leadership to develop and implement clinical workflows and protocols.
- Organizes and develops plans to support offices when there are nursing shortages.
- Trains all new nurses in assigned regions on Workflows and protocols.
- Leads and organizes Nurse Leadership meetings; creates agenda, follows up on outstanding items, coordinates offices’ feedback and rolls out new processes and workflows.
- Active membership in Divisional meetings such as Divisional Leadership, EMR and Quality.
- Supervises department staff, including recruiting and hiring, scheduling, approving timesheets, submitting payroll information, training, resolving conflicts and patient complaints, ensuring policies and procedures are followed in compliance with federal regulations and acting as a liaison between providers and staff.
- Assists with hiring, orientation, training and coaching of clinical staff.
- Facilitates standardized triage nurse training for Service Center and Primary Care offices.
- Maintains appropriate triage coverage for all sites by adjusting support in real-time as needed.
- Evaluates or gives input into the performance of clinical staff, recommends merit increases, promotions and disciplinary actions in accordance with IHA Human Resources and service guidelines. Performs annual Clinical Competency assessments.
- Together with providers, develops and clarifies clinical office protocols for office staff.
- Provides ongoing communication to physicians, office leadership and staff regarding pertinent clinical issues from respective committees.
- Collaborates with office leadership on efforts to build and maintain effective teams among the office employees.
- Assists the site medical directors in assuring adequate clinical staff training and competence. Participates in new clinical staff orientation related to all of the responsibilities outlined in this description.
- Participates in patient experience and patient relations and concerns.
- Acts as a clinical resource for staff and providers.
- In collaboration with provider and office leadership, incorporates Quality and Continuous Improvement strategic goals into office activities to ensure their achievement.
- Maintains proper documentation of patient information in a timely, accurate manner to ensure continuity of patient care.
- Communicates instructions and test results to patient as directed by provider. Shares patient information with provider.
- Schedules appointments.
- Calls in prescriptions as directed by provider.
- Tracks and informs patient of laboratory/diagnostic test results as directed by physicians.
- Answers telephone according to written protocol and/or provider instruction.
- Provides patient/family education as directed by providers.
