Responsibilities
  • Provide coordination of nursing care, education, and support to patients and families of the Thoracic Surgery Service and other surgical patients.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and consultant to all customers of general surgery, especially focused on thoracic surgery.
  • Coordinate care pre‑operatively and post‑operatively for the surgical patient population primarily in the thoracic surgery outpatient setting.
  • Assist in the development of patient care standards in collaboration with the clinical management team.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of competencies, protocols, and patient education tools to improve patient care.
  • Seek out patient education materials.
  • Work collaboratively with all members of the general surgery team to provide efficient patient care processes, especially for the thoracic patient population.
  • Order tests, renew prescriptions, inform patients of results from testing, telephone triage (gathering information, giving instructions and answers to patients, teaching, relaying problems to MDs, and making decisions for patients to come to ER or clinic using nursing assessment skills).
  • Participate in quality improvement and/or LEAN initiatives.
  • Support research initiatives.

Salary & Nursing Framework Level

This UMPNC RN posting is posted under the Role‑Specific Advancement Model (RSAM) as:
CCC‑ COMPETENT NE.
Actual RSAM LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.
RSAM levels range from CCC‑COMPETENT NE to CCC‑EXPERT NE TO CCC‑MASTERY NE or CCC‑Mastery Plus NE.
Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position. Posting may be filled after the initial 5‑day posting period.
Applicants who have left the UMPNC bargaining unit must include on their resume dates of past employment including months and years of service along with effort.
Positions less than 20 hours/week may be combined.

Required Qualifications
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan
  • Bachelors degree in Nursing OR Associates degree/diploma in nursing AND a Masters degree in Nursing
