CLINICAL CARE COORDINATOR (Ambulatory Care – OB/GYN Clinic)
Join Michigan Medicine's Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Von Voigtlander Women’s Clinic. The clinic delivers consultation, comprehensive treatment, and a broad range of services for normal and high‑risk pregnancies and gynecologic care. The team includes physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, medical assistants, social workers, dieticians, and a multifunctional administrative/clerical staff.
Job SummaryProvide culturally sensitive, age‑specific nursing care within a team‑based model for patients seen at the Von Voigtlander OBGYN clinic. Deliver phone triage, referral, clinical advice, nurse visits (in‑person/virtual/phone), in‑clinic procedures, and documentation. Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and ancillary services to deliver high‑quality patient care.
Responsibilities- Provide culturally sensitive, age‑specific nursing care.
- Perform phone triage, referral triage, assessments, screenings, and clinical advice.
- Document nursing care accurately and efficiently.
- Use internal and external resources appropriately.
- Provide functional supervision to assistive personnel and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
- Clinical duties include:
- Assess and evaluate needs of OBGYN and Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) patients using critical thinking.
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and ancillary services to provide high‑quality care.
- Support outpatient care through InBasket messages and telephone triage.
- Coordinate care (medication management, test orders, results, OB intakes, post‑op calls, education, emergency management).
- Document patient progress through detailed records.
- Provide direct patient care in the ambulatory setting (assessment, education, counseling).
- Coordinate care for gynecological, obstetrical, and maternal‑fetal medicine patients.
- Assist with education for patients and staff.
- Perform preliminary assessments and facilitate appropriate follow‑up.
- Maintain complete and accurate patient charts.
- Evaluate unstable or complex situations and refer appropriately.
- Implement clinical decisions and accept accountability.
- Serve as a resource to the clinical team (social workers, nurses, clerical staff, physicians).
- Evaluate effectiveness of patient and family teaching.
- Respond to treatment‑related phone calls and inbox messages.
- Assist physicians with clinical activities and procedures as needed.
- Support clinical and translational research.
- Attend conferences and continuing‑education programs to stay current.
- Other nursing duties as assigned.
- Demonstrate critical thinking, problem‑solving, and prioritization.
- Show customer service, interpersonal communication, and respectful relationships.
- Maintain accountability and dependability, including good attendance and punctuality.
- Adapt to changing needs and priorities.
- Provide patient and family education, especially for chronic conditions.
- Proficiency with typing and EHR documentation.
- Manage complex clinical issues using assessment skills and evidence‑based interventions.
- Adapt to pediatric, OB/GYN, and adult populations.
- Current Michigan registered nurse license.
- One of the following educational credentials:
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
- Associate or diploma in nursing plus a Master’s or higher in nursing.
- Minimum 3 years recent experience in Labor and Delivery (within last 7 years).
- Minimum 2 years RN experience in an ambulatory care clinic.
- Current BLS certification.
- 3 years ambulatory care experience within OBGYN.
- 1 year Maternal Fetal Medicine ambulatory care experience.
- 5+ years OBGYN experience.
- Experience in specialty GYN ambulatory care (vulvar, pediatric GYN, transgender, minimally invasive, chronic pelvic pain).
- Experience with clinical protocols and staff education.
- Proficiency with MiChart, EPIC, Cisco Finesse, Word, Excel.
- 1 year recent OBGYN or labor and delivery triage.
- Certification in Ambulatory Nursing.
- Certification in Obstetric Nursing.
- 40 hours per week (full‑time).
- Day shift (8‑hour shifts), Monday‑Friday; variable hours may include weekends or holidays.
- Location:
Von Voigtlander OBGYN Clinic and other sites as needed.
- Union affiliated: covered by U‑M and Michigan Nurses Association agreement.
- Background screening and drug testing per U‑M policy.
