The Certified School Nurse is responsible for managing the health and well-being of students at a designated academy, with the flexibility to travel to other GEE academies as needed. This role involves coordinating health care services across all academies, providing direct nursing care to students, delivering CPR training to staff, and promoting a safe and healthy school environment.
Responsibilities- Health Services Coordination:
Serve as the primary health care provider for students at the assigned academy, with travel to other academies as required. - Collaborate with school administration, families, and community health providers to coordinate health care services for students with specific medical needs.
- Maintain accurate and confidential health records, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Direct Nursing Care:
Assess and manage acute and chronic health conditions of students, including administering medications and performing health-related procedures as prescribed. - Develop individualized health care plans (IHPs) for students with medical needs, ensuring continuity of care.
- Provide emergency care for injuries or illnesses occurring during school hours.
- CPR Training and Certification:
Maintain certification as a CPR trainer. Deliver CPR training to GEE staff on a regular basis, ensuring all staff meet required standards and remain certified on the continuum. - Health Promotion and
Education:
Develop and implement health education programs for students, including hygiene, nutrition, and wellness initiatives. - Participate in health-related school events and activities to promote a culture of health and safety.
- Compliance and Reporting:
Ensure compliance with health-related policies, including immunization requirements and communicable disease prevention protocols. - Provide regular updates to school leadership regarding health-related trends and concerns across the academy.
- Professional Development and
Collaboration:
Stay current with best practices and developments in school nursing and health care. Collaborate with other school nurses and health professionals within the GEE network to share resources and strategies.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license and certification as a School Nurse.
- Certified CPR Instructor (or ability to obtain certification within six months of hire).
- Experience in pediatric, school, or community health nursing preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and travel to multiple academies as needed.
- Primary placement at one academy with periodic travel to other GEE academies.
- May involve lifting or assisting students with mobility challenges.
