Overview
Position Description Veterinary Assistant – Banfield Pet Hospital
Responsibilities- Support veterinarians and veterinary technicians to ensure quality care for all pets.
- Act as the extra eyes, ears and hands for the veterinarian and veterinary technician to maximize productivity.
- Communicate with veterinarians, technicians and associates to maintain patient flow and deliver professional service.
- Prepare and perform procedures that do not require veterinary or technician assistance; prepare for other procedures; ensure client and pet comfort; monitor hospitalized or surgical pets as allowed by state practice acts.
- Educate clients about Optimum Wellness Plans, preventive care, pet health needs, hospital services and other issues.
- Obtain relevant information and medical history from clients and maintain complete medical charts.
- Ensure safety by using safe restraining techniques and maintaining clean, sterile, and organized treatment areas, exam rooms and labs.
- Assist with surgery as applicable; use NAVTA-guided skills for veterinary assistant duties; mentor other paraprofessionals.
- Adhere to the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. (Quality, Responsibility, Mutuality, Efficiency, Freedom).
- Certificate of completion from a NAVTA-approved Veterinary Assistant program, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years old to perform radiography duties.
- One year related experience preferred; customer service experience preferred.
- Ability to perform NAVTA-level skills and duties and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work at a computer for long periods; be comfortable around pets; weekend/evening hours may be required; up to 50 pounds lift; physical requirements as described.
- Noise level moderately high; must have ambulatory ability; exposure to pets, potential hazards including anesthesia, radiology, chemicals.
