Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) dysfunction and genetic associations involve mitochondrial biology pathways. The Parker lab seeks applicants to work on a project studying the effect of single‑cell resolution and context‑specific regulatory variants and transcriptional control elements at T2D GWAS signals. The focus will be on mitochondrial function in disease‑relevant cells and tissues. The candidate will help organize and lead the research project that involves molecular biology, statistical genetics, functional genomics, and metabolic assays using the Agilent Seahorse technology.
They will also contribute to other laboratory projects, work independently and as part of a team, process human tissue samples and cultured cell lines, maintain the laboratory, and ensure compliance with University of Michigan safety and lab regulations.
- Organize and lead research projects involving molecular biology, statistical genetics, and functional genomics.
- Perform metabolic assays using Agilent Seahorse technology.
- Process human tissue samples and cultured cell lines for analyses.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, supplies, and records.
- Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with senior faculty and research staff on manuscript, grant, and presentation development.
- Assist in developing research goals and experimental procedures.
- B.S. in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or related field.
- 1–3 years experience in a molecular biology lab with excellent cell culture, cell metabolism, and PCR/qPCR skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to critically evaluate and present scientific literature.
- Experience handling laboratory records and meeting deadlines.
- English language proficiency.
- M.S. degree or higher preferred.
- Experience with Agilent Seahorse technology highly desired.
