Jewish Community Security Inc. has an immediate opening in the Security Department for a Security Coordinator. The Security Coordinator will be assigned to the afternoon shift at an agency facility in Ann Arbor from mid-August through early May. During summer, the role includes work at a camp in Oakland County and other temporary assignments across Oakland County. The Security Coordinator reports to the Deputy Director of Community-Wide Security for the Ann Arbor area.
Responsibilities- Monitor agency facilities (grounds, buildings, parking lots) to ensure security and deter crime.
- Provide armed (concealed) response, handle emergency situations, and ensure safety of all persons and property.
- Observe, report, and document suspicious activities and incidents accurately.
- Maintain order and enforce regulations for students, staff, visitors, and premises.
- Control access points, monitor entrances/exits, and prevent unauthorized access.
- Challenge and question unauthorized persons on property.
- Proficiently operate protective equipment, weapons, and safety devices.
- Operate CCTV and access control systems.
- Respond to emergencies such as fire, medical incidents, bomb threats, etc.
- Coordinate with law enforcement and emergency services as needed.
- Investigate and report security violations.
- Provide security for special events upon request.
- Manage scheduling of contract security personnel.
- Conduct training sessions and emergency drills.
- Maintain and update safety procedures and security practices.
- Evaluate and improve the security program regularly.
- Build positive relationships with local law enforcement and act as liaison.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Associate degree required.
- At least five years of law enforcement experience.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain a safe environment without disrupting operations.
- Decision-making skills in crisis situations.
- Effective communication in English.
- Physical and mental requirements include alertness, hearing, seeing, speaking, and physical mobility.
- Organizational skills, dependability, and detail orientation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Positive attitude, teamwork, and work ethic.
- Ability to write clear, detailed reports.
- Availability to work weekends.
- Sensitivity to Jewish faith and practices.
- Valid Michigan Driver’s License and eligibility for Michigan “Exempt” CPL.
- Experience in school or campus security/law enforcement.
- Familiarity with firearms and use-of-force decision making.
- Advanced security coursework or supervisory experience.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
- Experience with CCTV and alarm systems.
The candidate must pass medical, psychological, drug, and weapon qualification tests. Employment is contingent upon these screenings and a review of work history demonstrating responsible armed security work. Tobacco use is prohibited on agency property.
