Role Overview

The Instructional Support Assistant, in coordination with Vocational staff, Behavior and Related Services Departments, provides assistance to classroom staff in programming for students.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in classroom instruction with individual, small, and large groups as directed by the teacher.
  • Providing individualized instruction and supervision for students on and off-campus.
  • Supporting daily organizational planning with the teacher.
  • Recording and reporting behavior data, evaluating student progress, and writing reports.
  • Communicating with parents, staff, and other professionals as needed.
  • Supervising students to ensure safety during bus, playground, and off-campus activities.
  • Supervising the classroom in the absence of the teacher.
  • Implementing behavior programs.
  • Assisting with medication administration, data collection, and other tasks as assigned.
  • Supporting staff with special projects such as inventories and field trips.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, or related fields preferred (not required).
  • Experience in a special needs school environment preferred.
  • Experience working with children in educational settings.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team.
