Location: Annadale
Challenging temporary opportunity to work as part of the Adult and Aging Division’s Adult Protective Services (APS) program. This appointee will conduct investigations in response to reports of abuse, neglect and/or exploitation of the elderly and incapacitated adults to include institutional investigations. Assesses the need and extent of protective services required and— in collaboration with the client, their support systems, and other public and private service providers—arranges for the necessary services to prevent/ameliorate the abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
Assesses the need for Guardianship/Conservatorship and facilitates the process to include medical documentation, preparation of information required for petitions, testimony in court and advocacy. Assesses the need for mental health intervention, assists with the mental health detention process and testifies in the legal hearings. Attends court hearings and provides professional and legal testimony as needed.
Expected duration of employment is no more than 6 months.
Note: This is a non-merit G-Status temporary position that cannot exceed 900 hours per calendar year. Appointee is not eligible for benefits and does not earn paid leave or holiday pay.
Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with a bachelor's degree, plus two years of professional social work experience. A master's degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
Contingent upon the area of assignment, some positions within this class may require specific certification(s) prior to employment and/or the ability to acquire necessary certification(s) within a specified time period following employment. The certifications are identified in the position description and employment advertisement.
Special Requirements:
The appointee to this position must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check, a check of the Child Protective Services Registry and a driving record check. Driver’s license or ability to efficiently access other means of transportation in order to meet with clients and other community service providers.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in social work (MSW) is preferred. One year of professional social work experience working with older adults or adults with disabilities and their caregivers within a long‑term care system. Bilingual is helpful. Working knowledge of community‑based and long‑term care services. Good oral and written communication skills. Good organizational skills. Experience using automated technology and software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Physical Requirements: This job requires the ability to drive to client homes and facilities, use keyboard‑driven equipment and computer, and telephone/cell phone.
