Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing day‑to‑day core accounting operations, acting as a critical bridge between operations, accounting, and leadership. The role ensures accuracy in financial data, strong internal controls, and timely reporting while supporting the monthly close process and managing accounting workflows in Quick Books and ECI.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage daily accounting in Quick Books/ECI (AP, deposits, reconciliation, accruals, depreciation schedules)
  • Reconcile settlement sheets and book entries for house, lot, and loan closings
  • Perform bank reconciliations for operating and loan accounts
  • Assist with Accounts Payable (invoice/credit card charge coding, approvals, disbursement prep)
  • Maintain WIP schedules and job cost reports
  • Prepare post‑mortem analyses for completed projects and deep‑dives into cost overruns, variances, and profitability by subdivision or project
  • Track KPIs & benchmarking—monitor DIO, DPO, overhead absorption, gross margin by community—and compare against budget and industry benchmarks
  • Ensure vendor invoices are entered and approved before month‑end for proper accounting period inclusion
  • Verify accruals, prepaids, and recurring journal entries
  • Maintain accurate naming and filing of all close‑related files using company conventions
  • Track outstanding items from the "open‑items list" and follow up with team members for resolution
  • Ensure all scanned and uploaded materials meet audit‑readiness standards per the Schaefer Homes - Finance Department SOP
  • Process bi‑weekly payroll and ensure accurate posting to the general ledger
  • Maintain payroll records, PTO balances, and employee personnel files
  • Reconcile payroll reports and coordinate accurate expense allocations
  • Ensure compliance with all federal and state payroll laws
  • Enter invoices and maintain vendor documentation in Quick Books/ECI
  • Perform weekly check runs, scan checks, enter payments into Positive Pay, and ensure timely disbursement of funds
  • Manage vendor communication, W‑9 collection, and insurance certificate tracking; maintain signed vendor agreements in Share Point
  • Assist with vendor credit applications and support purchasing as needed
  • Upload bank statements, credit card statements, and other documents to the accounting shared file database by established close deadlines
  • Administer employee benefits, including healthളൊ​ate insurance, PTO, and onboarding documentation
  • Coordinate with insurance providers for renewals, claims, and policy maintenance; maintain the EASE database and employee benefit records
  • Support annual open enrollment and assist employees with benefit inquiries
  • Support onboarding and offboarding processes for smooth transitions
  • Contribute to the continuousyside improvement of administrative Brutal processes and طول systems
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree

    Bidith Business Administration, Accounting, or related field preferred, but not required
  • Minimum 3–5 years of senior accounting experience
  • Proficiency with ECI, Quick Books, or similar ERP/accounting systems
  • Experience in HR oversight, including payroll, onboarding, and benefits administration cote a plus
  • Background in construction, real estate development, or related industries a plus
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record‑keeping
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion with sensitive information
  • Strong problem‑solving and multitasking capabilities
Compensation

Full‑time position. Salary: $80,000 – $90,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
