JOB SUMMARY
Provides services to those students in‑class or virtual programs in need of intensive counseling/social work services as identified by the school team and their families. Provide intensive therapeutic and family intervention services to the identified school population. Works with school personnel to reduce barriers to learning. Provides resources to assist students as needed in traditional schools and virtual environment. Virtual experience may be required based on assignment.
Bilingual and biliterate in targeted language may be required depending on assignment.
- Conducts in-person or virtual individual therapy and/or group counseling on a regular basis; provides necessary counseling and other related services to students with disabilities according to their Individualized Education Programs or 504 plan. Provides counseling services to general education students with social/emotional needs, given parent/guardian permission.
- Interviews student and family members to assess the nature and degree of needs.
- Coordinates and collaborates with community agencies to assist students and families, when needed.
- Given necessary releases of information, serves as a liaison between the school and students' mental health providers. Interprets psychiatric and other treatments and assessments to family and individual students.
- Plans and conducts professional development trainings and individual consultations (in person and/or virtually) for teachers and other school staff related to topics including (but not limited to) the following: the handling of social/emotional/behavioral concerns, issues related to trauma, child abuse, poverty, and diversity equity & inclusion.
- Participates in crisis intervention services, including individual and school-wide prevention, intervention and post-vention activities, serves as a member of the school's threat assessment team.
- Consults with school staff to enhance student’s school performance by addressing barriers to learning.
- Attends and participates in school-based team conferences, Section 504 multidisciplinary meetings and IEP team meetings where appropriate and within required timelines; serves as a witness in special education mediations and hearings as requested.
- Provides support and services to families experiencing personal and environmental variables, such as economic hardship (poverty), which interfere with student progress. May conduct home visits, if appropriate.
- Completes required documentation within timelines, including case notes, IEP documentation, Medicaid billing.
- Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.
- Master's Degree in Social Work from a regionally accredited college or university required; and
- Other:
Completion of three (3) semester hours of State-approved Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credits in special education coursework required.
- Two (2) years post-Master's experience providing clinical social work services in a clinical setting dealing with children/adolescents and their families required.
- One (1) year experience in school-based settings preferred.
- One (1) year experience with virtual learning technology, remote instruction platforms, Learning Management Systems, and video conferencing tools if assigned to virtual environment required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Ability to write, implement, and document student intervention plans.
- Ability to adhere to school, department and district policies, rules and practices, and professional ethics.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
- Ability to effectively communicate with diverse communities and develop outreach strategies to encourage parental involvement in student learning.
- Ability to work effectively and engage diverse parents/ guardians with varied communication styles, levels of skill and experience to support their child’s education experience.
