Histology Technician

Meets all responsibility requirements established by the Supervisor, Laboratory Services and Assistant Manager, Laboratory Services.
Responsibilities:
- Preparation of tissue specimens for microscopic evaluations by the pathologist, including surgical, research, and outside cases.
- Assumption of responsibility for quality of tissue slides, following technical and quality control procedures.
- Maintenance of work area equipment supplies.
- Performing special techniques, including special stains.
- Monitoring compliance with safety regulations.
- Performing other related duties as needed.
- Indirectly overseeing the work of laboratory assistants.
- Participating in training of other lab personnel.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- High school diploma, associate degree, or at least 60 semester hours of academic credit from a regionally accredited college or university, equivalent in laboratory experience, or registered as Histology Technician HT (ASCP) preferred.
- Must be HT or HTL certified or meet the requirements and be eligible for certification.
- State license if required by state in which the lab is located.
- Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution or
- Associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution or
- Education and experience equivalent to an associate degree in science with at least 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution or
- Meet other provisions defined in 42
CFR
493.1489(b)(2)(B)(4) or 42
CFR
493.1489(b)(2)(B)(5)(i) for personnel performing high complexity testing on or before April 24, 1995 (refer to the CLIA regulations for more details.)
