Medical Coordinator-Cardiology Specialists
Coordinates the medical care of surgery patients in a high‑volume, multi‑faceted surgery center. Responsibilities include clinical support, clerical support, financial coordination, and management contact.
EssentialJob Duties
- Coordinates the required activities of the surgery center to ensure a smooth and efficient patient navigation process, providing clinic office support including coverage for other office staff members.
- Establishes rapport with patients scheduling surgical procedures, works closely with patients to set up payment plans, monitors compliance, and responds to billing and insurance inquiries, facilitating prompt resolution of financial issues.
- Provides patient education about insurance requirements and financial obligations, demonstrating competence with the collection process.
- Coordinates the financial process including insurance submission/authorization, documentation of specific requirements, and daily contact with third‑party payers for approvals, denials, and appeals.
- Maintains continual patient contact by guiding patients comfortably through the surgical process, gathering and interpreting routine data.
- Exchanges factual information, obtains pertinent details from various sources, explains medical center policies, and relays messages to appropriate personnel.
- Collects and maintains required documentation of insurance center requirements prior to submission.
- Answers and screens office calls, manages high call volume activities, greets patients professionally and promptly, and projects proper telephone etiquette.
- Demonstrates knowledge in interpreting billing slips, the Athena workflow dashboard, and advanced medical terminology, CPT and ICD-10 coding, fee‑for‑service and third‑party reimbursements.
- Maintains productivity with minimal direction, prioritizes work assignments, complies with health record procedures, and understands appropriate release of protected health information.
Minimum Required
Education:
High School Diploma or GED.
Minimum
Required Experience:
At least 5 years in a medical setting, preferably with experience in patient consultation or sales/account management.
