Responsible for supervising personnel who provide asset protection for patients, visitors and employees throughout the Medical Center. Coordinates day‑to‑day security operations, ensuring smooth operation, continuous monitoring of all areas, and preventing hazardous conditions.

Responsibilities
  • Hire, evaluate performance, issue final disciplinary actions under the review of Human Resources, and recommend discharge in collaboration with management and HR.
  • Supervise all officers, including performance evaluation, continuous coaching, training, disciplinary action, and retention. Manage officers’ daily productivity through established department goals and objectives.
  • Conduct regular rounding throughout the facility—especially the ER, campus buildings, parking garages, and grounds; speak with staff and area leaders to address any concerns regarding safety and security.
  • Respond to safety and security incidents and emergency situations according to department procedures, providing necessary assistance to employees and customers. Proficient in and utilize non‑violent crisis intervention and de‑escalation techniques to keep staff, patients, visitors and others safe, calm, and respected while on site.
  • Prepare the department daily schedule and payroll with assistance from other supervisor(s); assign responsibilities in accordance with workload requirements, and find appropriate coverage if there are call‑offs.
  • Manage the fire‑drill program—including assignment of drills to officers, drill completion, evaluation of the drill or actual alarm, ongoing training, and compliance based on organizational and regulatory policies.
  • Ensure maintenance and tracking of department equipment and supplies.
  • Investigate and conduct follow‑up investigations on all incident reports submitted via the established hospital reporting system.
  • Collaborate with applicable law enforcement agencies relative to hospital security investigations or other campus activity as needed.
  • Assist in the development of department goals, objectives, policies, and procedures; ensure compliance with hospital/facility policies and procedures and governmental and accreditation regulations.

  • Attend staff meetings and complete mandatory in‑services, requirements and competency evaluations on time.
  • Understand regulatory requirements concerning compliance and all other laws and regulations that apply to the organization’s operations; proactively address compliance issues, reporting through appropriate channels such as supervisor, chain of command and Ethics Point.
  • Maintain current knowledge in present areas of responsibility (e.g., self‑education, attending ongoing educational programs).
  • Work collaboratively and support team members; demonstrate exceptional customer service and interact effectively with physicians, patients, residents, visitors, staff, and the broader healthcare community.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required;
    Associate’s degree or higher preferred.
  • Valid Class D Maryland driver’s license with no more than two points on the current driving record.
  • Supervisor must be willing to work various shifts and travel to different facilities within the Health System as needed.
  • Four years of hospital‑related security experience; two years of supervisory experience.
  • Professional security‑related experience may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis for up to two years of the required education.
  • Applicants must be able to obtain a State of Maryland Guard Card and maintain a good standing with the Maryland State Police.
  • BLS/CPR Certification through the American Heart Association preferred; must obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • IAHSS Basic & Advanced Officer Certification preferred and required within six months or by promotion.
  • Reasonable expectation of exposure to blood‑borne pathogens.

Salary

Pay Range: $26.13 – $39.19 USD per hour
