Position: Coach - Outdoor Track and Field (Middle School)

Coach – Outdoor Track and Field (Middle School)

Position Summary
Temporary Team Sports Coach for Middle School track and field. This position supports interscholastic athletics programs at AACPS for students who wish to pursue the challenges and benefits of sports. Candidates may be assigned as Head, Assistant, or Volunteer Coach.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities
  • Provides a set of written training rules/code of conduct policies to students at the beginning of the season.
  • Determines the personnel of the team.
  • Administers appropriate forms of discipline for infractions of athletic policies, consistent with the Administrative HELP Manual’s reference to due process.
  • Provides written communication to the student athlete regarding requirements for earning an athletic award.
  • Submits to the athletic director an eligibility roster for certification at least one week before the first contest.
  • Collects and reviews completed required forms from each student athlete prior to participation.
  • Maintains a written inventory of equipment, supplies, and uniforms at the conclusion of the season.
  • Familiarizes with all current medical protocols and guidelines concerning interscholastic athletics.
  • Knows and enforces all state, county, and school athletic policies and procedures.
  • Attends appropriate meetings in the school and at the county level and attends rules interpretation meetings.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.
Additional Duties
  • Assistant Coach – Reports to and works with the head coach to establish a uniform program.
  • Assistant Coach – Provides the head coach with all requested information.
Minimum Qualifications

Education
  • High School Diploma or Equivalency Certificate required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university preferred.
Experience
  • Athletic experience at the middle school, high school, college, organized recreation council program, and/or professional level in the sport or related coaching experience required.
  • Current teaching experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to speak and write effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with students, staff, and parents.
  • Excellent organization, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with diverse populations.
  • Proficiency with business technology applications (e.g., Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite).
Licenses and Certifications
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification issued by AHA or accredited training centers.
  • Successful completion of Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries Course issued by AACPS.
  • Concussion in Sports Certification issued by NFHS.
  • Heat Illness Prevention Certification issued by NFHS.
Physical Demands / Working Conditions

Standing, walking, sitting, keyboarding, talking, and hearing: between 1/3 and 2/3 of the time. Working conditions include indoor and outdoor environments, exposure to outdoor weather, moderate noise level, and occasional lifting of equipment.
