The Adult Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) is a healthcare provider who uses education and experience to provide care for adult patients undergoing general medical conditions or surgical interventions. The RN assesses, implements, and evaluates patient responses to therapies and interventions, initiates care plans, teaches patients and families, and works under the direction and supervision of the client representative on the assigned adult medical surgical unit.

Graduate of an accredited Diploma, Associate, or Baccalaureate School of Nursing.
LicensureCurrent and unrestricted RN nursing license in the state of practice.
ExperienceOne year of experience as an RN in an Adult Medical Surgical Unit within the last three years.
CredentialsCurrent CPR at least to the BLS level; other health and screening tests as required by specific facilities and/or regulatory agencies.
Environmental Working ConditionsVarious client facility settings; possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious materials.
Representative Duties and Responsibilities- Complies with ATC policies and procedures.
- Complies with client facility nursing policies and procedures.
- Conducts individualized patient assessment, prioritizing data collection based on needs and condition.
- Conducts ongoing nursing assessment as dictated by patient condition and client facility protocols.
- Collaborates with team members to develop, implement, and evaluate an individualized plan of care.
- Performs appropriate treatments and therapies as ordered by physician in a timely manner.
- Provides individualized patient and family teaching.
- Documents patient assessments, findings, and psychosocial responses to nursing interventions.
- Initiates emergency measures per adult and client resuscitation protocols.
- Maintains confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA.
- Provides patient care non-judgmentally and non-discriminatorily, respecting cultural diversity and age.
- Advocates patient rights regarding advance directives and organ donation.
- Reports patient condition to appropriate personnel during each shift as needed.
- Maintains competency by completing continuing education and meeting state requirements.
- Complies with ethical conduct and professional standards of nursing practice.
- Demonstrates effective delegation.
