Job Description

Locate Technicians are responsible for accurately locating underground facilities including telephone, electric, cable TV, gas, fiber optic, water, and sewer lines. The role requires observing, locating, marking, and documenting underground and exposed utilities, using multiple methods. Technicians may work independently or as part of a team, always under the supervision of an assigned supervisor. The position ensures the area complies with client and state requirements.

All employees work in a safety‑first environment and advance within the company based on performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Locate underground facilities using transmitters and address buried facilities.
  • Work in all terrain types and weather conditions, including construction zones, residential, commercial, industrial, and rural areas.
  • Interpret job order tickets, blueprints, and maps to route duties efficiently.
  • Perform regular, overtime, and holiday locates as needed.
  • Work punctually, professionally, and efficiently while communicating with customers, co‑employees, and third parties.
  • Coordinate with management, contractors, and utility customers to maintain a damage‑free environment.
  • Utilize required technology and tools and maintain proper vehicle, laptop, and phone equipment.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • State‑issued driver’s license.
  • Ability to problem‑solve and read/interpret multiple types of prints.
  • Experience with vacuum trucks (A+ preferred).
  • Physical ability to lift over 50 lbs and walk/stand for extended periods.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Pass background screening (no violations within the last 5 years) and a DOT drug test.

Schedule
  • 10‑hour shifts, Monday to Friday.

Education

High school or equivalent (required).

Experience
  • At least 1 year of computer skills (preferred).
  • At least 1 year of utility locating (preferred).
License/Certification
  • Driver’s license (required).
