Per Diem Residential Counselor
At BHcare, we believe every individual deserves the opportunity to live with dignity, purpose, and independence. We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Residential Counselor to join our Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Residential Program. The Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Residential Program provides a community-based residential setting for individuals living with acquired or traumatic brain injuries. The program delivers coordinated physical, psychological, medical, vocational, and social services while helping residents develop independent living skills, strengthen natural supports, and achieve meaningful recovery outcomes.
These are Per Diem positions and various shifts are available as this is a 24/7 program. This position is designated as Onsite Essential Staff and is required to report to work during inclement weather and other emergency situations. Candidates must reside in Connecticut to be eligible for this position.
What You'll Do:
As a Residential Counselor, you will play a vital role in supporting residents' day-to-day success and overall well-being by:
- Assisting with the daily operation of the residential program.
- Supporting residents in developing and achieving individualized recovery goals and plans.
- Teaching and reinforcing independent living skills, including personal hygiene, cooking, meal planning, cleaning, budgeting, and community integration.
- Providing rehabilitation services and facilitating skill-building and recovery-focused groups.
- Coordinating care and connecting residents with medical, behavioral health, vocational, educational, and community resources.
- Advocating for residents and helping them establish meaningful community supports and relationships.
- Supervising self-medication protocols and supporting health and safety needs.
- Providing crisis intervention and coordinating with emergency services when needed.
Qualifications
- Two years of college education in Human Services, Behavioral Science, or a related field preferred; OR High School Diploma/GED with 2-4 years of direct care experience.
- Experience working with individuals with behavioral health, cognitive, neurological, or co-occurring challenges preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Valid Connecticut driver's license with an acceptable driving record and the ability to transport clients as needed.
- Ability to obtain and maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.
What We Offer
Pay rate is $20.00 per hour.
