Purpose:
Provide targeted instructional support and interventions to students under the direct supervision of a certified teacher. Assist in preparing, conducting, and managing classroom activities.
Education/Certification/Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED and meet one of the following requirements:
- Completion of 48 credit hours from an accredited institution of higher education
- Possess an associate (or higher) degree
- OR Passing score on the paraprofessional assessment - Must qualify for the required paraprofessional certificate (Educational Aide I) and meet the following requirements for certification:
- Experience working with students or parents as approved by the employing superintendent. Experience may be working in church-related schools, day camps, youth groups, private schools, licensed day-care centers, or similar experience.
- Ability to work with students with disabilities
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, and parents orally and in writing.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Strong organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to use basic computer skills to include Microsoft Office Software
- Bilingual Preferred
- Provide targeted instruction and classroom support to students under the direction of a teacher and work with individual students or small groups (i.e. Blended Learning, RTI/MTSS, etc.).
- Works closely with campus teachers to address the needs of students.
- Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and activities, centers, and classroom displays.
- Assist teacher in analyzing data to inform teacher center activities.
- Assist with the administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
- Help maintain neat and orderly classrooms.
- Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
- Help teachers keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
- Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
- Make teacher aware of special needs or problems of individual students.
- Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance (i.e. Blended Learning, RTI/MTSS, etc.).
- Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Participate in monthly Blended Learning Steering Committees as assigned.
