Position Summary

The gifted teacher is responsible for creating a supportive learning environment that fosters academic, social, and emotional growth of students. The teacher plans and implements lessons, assesses student progress, and collaborates with parents, colleagues, and administrators to ensure the success of each child. The Gifted Education Teacher provides targeted enrichment and extension opportunities for students demonstrating advanced academic potential. This role supports higher‑order thinking, creativity, and problem‑solving through rigorous, differentiated instruction aligned to Illinois Learning Standards and the Illinois Gifted Education Framework.

The teacher collaborates with classroom teachers, instructional coaches, administrators, and families to ensure each identified student is challenged to achieve their fullest potential academically, socially, and emotionally.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Embrace a philosophy of self and program continuous improvement
  • Administer various assessments and analyze data to identify students for Multi‑Tiered System of Supports enrichment and gifted services
  • Deliver differentiated instruction in multiple subject areas utilizing a variety of instructional methods (e.g., whole group, small group and individualized instruction)
  • Align enrichment instruction with the district’s Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum (GVC) and strategic goals
  • Use diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments to monitor progress and maintain compliance with state identification procedures
  • Facilitate individualized personal/problem/project learning opportunities
  • Provide Social Emotional Learning supports to students receiving enrichment/gifted services
  • Develop lessons and identify appropriate accommodations/modifications with teachers to help support and enrich student learning experiences
  • Foster collaboration and instructional best practices through the modeling and co‑teaching of lessons
  • Partner with classroom teachers to co‑plan, co‑teach, and model strategies for differentiation, compacting, and curriculum extension
  • Promote and support communication among classroom teachers, administrators, and families as it relates to students receiving enrichment and gifted services
  • Participate in professional organizations and networking opportunities to ensure knowledge of the latest developments in differentiation and gifted education
  • Provide professional development to staff in the areas of differentiated instruction and gifted education (Gifted Specialist Endorsement only)
  • Maintain compliance with District and State reporting guidelines for students receiving enrichment and gifted services
  • Analyze multiple data sources to evaluate program effectiveness and inform continuous improvement goals
  • Assume any other duties as directed by the immediate Supervisor, with scope adjustments made in the best interest of the school district
Qualifications
  • Illinois Teaching Certification Required (PEL)
  • Illinois Gifted Education Teacher Endorsement Required
  • Illinois Gifted Education Specialist Endorsement Preferred
  • Five years of full‑time teaching experience and demonstrated involvement with enrichment/gifted students preferred
  • Bilingual (ESL/Bilingual) endorsement or experience supporting multilingual learners preferred, to promote equitable access to enrichment and gifted programming
  • Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Gifted Education, or a related field preferred
