Job Description
MPA are currently recruiting for Band 7 (with Dysphagia), Speech and Language Therapist. The individual should have experience working independently with children with dysphagia and experience of speech, language and communication work with children with complex and severe learning disabilities in a community or school setting.
This post will be based in Antrim Child Development Centre and will require travel for follow up home visits as required for children discharged from Antrim Area Hospital.
Main Responsibilities- To be responsible for the highly specialist assessment, diagnosis and management of neonates, infants and children with a broad range of feeding and swallowing disorders, speech, language and communication difficulties, associated with special needs and complex disorders
- To provide highly specialist advice and treatment of the full range of communication disorders as appropriate and indicated, including knowledge of AAC systems.
- To provide advice to parents and carers regarding the impact/likely impact of their child’s learning disability/physical impairment on their child’s communication development
- To be responsible for the planning and management of the caseload
- To devise and supervise the delivery of SLT programmes in the acute, community and education settings.
- To deliver appropriate training programmes for parents, carers, acute and community care staff and other professionals involved in the care of this client group.
- To supervise undergraduate speech and language therapists
- To continue to, and participate in, policy/clinical standards setting as required.
- To develop and participate in monitoring, audit procedures and research as required to ensure the development of safe feeding and supportive communicative environments, which maximise children’s feeding and communication skills and learning opportunities.
- Degree/Diploma in Speech and Language Therapy
- RSCLT and HCPC Registration
- Minimum 3 years' postgraduate experience at Band 6
- Evidence of providing training to parents, carers or other professional groups
- Post Graduate qualification in Paediatric Dysphagia (eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties) and evidence of independent management of paediatric dysphagia for a minimum of 18 months
- Evidence of specialist training in Dysphagia Management eg, CA, Paediatric Dysphagia, Neonatal feeding and feeding issues in Premature Infants
- Hold a current full driving license
