Location: antrim

VANRATH is working with a long established Northern Ireland freight forwarding and logistics business on the appointment of a Transport Planner for their Antrim operation. The company runs air, ocean and road freight alongside customs brokerage and warehousing, moving goods for clients across pharmaceutical, engineering, manufacturing, aerospace and renewables.

This is a busy planning role at the centre of the operation. You will plan and co-ordinate routes and loads day to day, keeping deliveries efficient, on time and compliant while making the best use of the fleet and drivers.

  • Permanent, full time
  • Antrim based
  • Office based within an established transport operation

Salary

£30,000 to £40,000

The Role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Plan and co-ordinate daily routes and loads for efficiency and on-time delivery
  • Allocate work across the fleet and driver team, making the best use of the resource available
  • Liaise with drivers throughout the day, adjusting plans as priorities shift
  • Act as the point of contact for delivery queries from customers and internal departments
  • Keep an eye on drivers' hours, tachograph and WTD requirements when building the plan
  • Track deliveries and update systems and customers on progress
  • Resolve delays, exceptions and issues quickly to keep freight moving
  • Manage collection and delivery bookings with customers, hauliers and agents
  • Support transport compliance and keep accurate planning records
  • Look for ways to improve efficiency and reduce cost across the operation

The Ideal Candidate

  • Transport planning or transport office experience, ideally within freight, logistics or distribution
  • Working knowledge of drivers' hours, tachograph and WTD regulations
  • Strong planning and organisational ability, calm when priorities change at short notice
  • Confident communicator, comfortable dealing with drivers, customers and agents
  • Commercially aware, with an eye on cost and service
  • Comfortable on transport and routing systems and standard Microsoft packages
  • Full driving licence
