Job Title:
Waste Resource Management Driver Category C1
Location:
Antrim
Pay Rate: £13.69 (plus allowance 18.5%) £16.22
Our client, Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council, requires two Waste Resource Management Operatives / LGV Drivers to join their team.
Responsibilities:
- Safely operate and maintain allocated vehicles, equipment, tail lifts, sweepers and other mechanical systems.
- Carry out daily vehicle, equipment and safety checks, routine maintenance and defect reporting.
- Comply with relevant road traffic, health and safety and traffic management legislation.
- Undertake street cleansing, including sweeping, litter picking, waste collection and cleaning of public areas.
- Inspect litter bins and waste receptacles and report damage or defects.
- Operate onboard communication, GPS and safety systems effectively.
- Carry out Household Recycling Centre duties, including assisting customers, managing waste disposal and maximising recycling and recovery.
- Collect domestic and commercial refuse, recycling, bulky waste, garden waste and illegally dumped materials.
- Ensure collected containers are returned safely and work areas are left clean and tidy.
- Undertake alternative duties during adverse weather, including gritting and snow clearance.
- Deliver Council communications, stores and other materials safely as required.
- Support the team in achieving service standards and performance targets.
- When not driving, undertake Waste Resource Management operative duties.
- Attend relevant meetings and training and maintain effective communication with managers, colleagues and customers.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to the level of the post.
General Responsibilities:
- Work flexibly as part of a team to achieve departmental objectives.
- Provide a high standard of customer service and resolve customer queries appropriately.
- Maintain and develop relevant knowledge and skills.
- Follow Council policies and procedures, particularly those relating to health, safety, wellbeing and safeguarding.

- Work across other sections of the Department or Council when required.
Essential Criteria
Qualifications
- Valid Category C1 driving licence.
- Full Driver CPC / Driver Qualification Card.
Experience
- Minimum 2 years' experience driving vehicles under a Category C1 licence.
Skills & Abilities
- Good organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Basic computer literacy, including GPS/TMS systems.
Knowledge
- Working knowledge of health and safety, manual handling and reversing procedures.
- Knowledge of waste collection, disposal and recycling.
- Understanding of relevant traffic management requirements.
