Purpose Of PositionThe IT Operations Manager position, from My Computer Career’s leadership office, oversees and directs the day‑to‑day activities of the organization’s information technology (IT) department, ensuring that systems, services, and infrastructure work reliably and securely. IT operations managers lead teams that develop and implement networks and servers, respond to user help desk requests, and monitor system stability and performance. The IT operations manager provides guidance and leadership to the IT department and its technicians, but also directly supports end users by handling escalations, resolving user issues, and monitoring the performance of business‑critical systems to prevent delays and outages and quickly resolve ongoing issues.
Essential Job Duties And Responsibilities- Monitor servers, networks, and computer systems for irregularities and performance issues.
- Assess system data and error logs to determine areas for improvement or repair.
- Determine when systems or servers are due for upgrades.
- Direct the activities of IT technicians, both to directly support end users and to assist with IT department upgrades and directives.
- Assess current department needs and helpdesk inquiries and assign personnel to resolve each issue.
- Develop IT policies and procedures to ensure that the department operates effectively and reliably.
- Develop guides for users and technicians, such as P&P and SOP documents for IT department personnel.
- Provide direct customer support for help desk escalations. Make final decisions regarding hardware or software replacement or updates in accordance with IT budgeting.
- Assess department and business needs related to equipment and services and present them to CIO.
- Oversee upgrades and installations to support IT department activities while upgrading systems and servers and migrating the organization’s data; introduce new methods to streamline the upgrade process, monitor the system to ensure it remains stable and usable, and maintain data security through migration.
- Maintain an adequate level of knowledge of operating systems and application software used to provide high levels of support to users.
- Monitor and evaluate efficacy of software/hardware usage, providing items to be covered in training of users, assisting them in productivity efficiencies.
- Install new software applications or hardware on the LAN, coordinating assistance from third parties when necessary.
- Add and maintain users on the network, assign application access, ensure security, and maintain configurations within standards.
- Create & maintain VLANs, Firewalls, WiFi, Security Cameras, etc.
- Perform software & hardware configurations, VMs, phishing campaigns, backups, telephony, interoffice communication.
- Participate in team meetings, providing input and suggestions, and prepare minutes of discussion items.
- Assist in gathering bid prices on equipment and supplies as needed.
- Monitor and report licenses on applications to ensure compliance as needed.
- Utilize technology to provide staff with a fast, accurate and secure method of gaining access to information so they can service the customer efficiently.
- Ensure that all necessary patches are applied to all servers.
- Provide a secure environment for systems, servers, and overall technology.
- Safeguard and keep completely private, except where explicitly stated, all company intellectual property including passwords, email, documents, hardware, software, infrastructure, etc.
- In charge of overall cyber security for the organization.
