About the RoleThe Kitchen Expeditor (Expo) plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth and efficient flow of food orders from the kitchen to the dining area, acting as the vital communication link between kitchen staff and servers. This position requires meticulous attention to detail to verify that each dish meets quality standards and is prepared according to customer specifications before it leaves the kitchen.
The Expo is responsible for coordinating timing and prioritization of orders to maintain optimal service speed and customer satisfaction. By managing the final presentation and accuracy of orders, the Kitchen Expeditor helps uphold the restaurant’s reputation for excellence and contributes to a positive dining experience. This role demands strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast‑paced environment.
- Previous experience in a fast‑paced kitchen or food service environment.
- Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and work in a physically demanding environment.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with kitchen and front‑of‑house staff.
- Experience working as a kitchen expeditor or in a similar role within the hospitality industry.
- Familiarity with point‑of‑sale (POS) systems and order management software.
- Certification in food handling or safety (e.g., Serv Safe).
- Ability to multitask effectively during high‑volume service periods.
- Demonstrated problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
- Coordinate and prioritize food orders to ensure timely and accurate delivery from the kitchen to the dining area.
- Inspect each dish for presentation, portion size, and adherence to customer specifications before it leaves the kitchen.
- Communicate effectively with kitchen staff and servers to resolve any issues or special requests promptly.
- Manage the flow of orders during peak service times to maintain efficiency and reduce wait times.
- Assist in maintaining cleanliness and organization of the expediting station and surrounding kitchen areas.
