About the Role

The Deli Clerk plays a vital role in delivering exceptional customer service within the food service environment by preparing and serving deli products with accuracy and care. This position is responsible for maintaining the deli counter’s cleanliness, ensuring food‑safety standards are met, and assisting customers with their selections to enhance their shopping experience. The Deli Clerk will manage inventory levels, restock items as needed, and collaborate with team members to ensure smooth daily operations.

Attention to detail and a friendly demeanor are essential to effectively handle customer inquiries and special requests. Ultimately, the role contributes to the overall success of the food service establishment by promoting quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic food handling knowledge and ability to follow food safety guidelines.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks such as lifting and bending.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with customers and team members.
  • Previous experience in a food service or retail environment is preferred but not required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification in food safety or food handler’s permit.
  • Experience operating deli equipment such as meat slicers and scales.
  • Familiarity with inventory management and point‑of‑sale systems.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast‑paced team environment.
Responsibilities
  • Greet customers warmly and assist them in selecting deli products according to their preferences and dietary needs.
  • Prepare and package deli items such as sliced meats, cheeses, salads, and sandwiches following established recipes and portion guidelines.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the deli counter, equipment, and work area in compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Monitor inventory levels, restock deli products promptly, and communicate supply needs to management to avoid shortages.
  • Operate deli equipment safely and efficiently, including slicers, scales, and cash registers, while adhering to company policies.

The Deli Clerk uses communication skills daily to engage with customers, understand their needs, and provide accurate product information, ensuring a positive shopping experience. Attention to detail is critical when preparing and packaging deli items to maintain quality and portion control.
