St Paul, Cottage Grove, Hastings, Rosemount, Apple Valley, South St Paul, Woodbury, Lakeland, Afton, Eagan and surrounding areas.
Lake Superior Consulting (LSC) is seeking a Utility Locate Lead to support the day‑to‑day operations of our utility locating and leak detection services. The role involves hands‑on field work while mentoring technicians to ensure safety, accuracy, and efficiency across all projects.
What You’ll Do- Lead and support field technicians to complete locate requests safely, accurately, and within required timelines.
- Perform underground utility locates using electronic locating equipment and APWA color standards.
- Read and interpret utility maps and prints to identify underground facilities.
- Assist in training, mentoring, and developing new and existing team members.
- Coordinate with the Utility Supervisor and field staff to manage daily workload and priorities.
- Complete documentation for locates, crossings, and excavation projects accurately and on time.
- Participate in safety meetings, audits, and operational reviews.
- Promote a strong safety and quality culture throughout all field activities.
- Communicate clearly with supervisors, clients, and coworkers to ensure efficient operations.
- Participate in on‑call rotations and ensure equipment readiness for field projects.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
- 2–3 years of utility locating experience (required).
- Prior leadership or mentoring experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of utility locating methods, equipment, and industry standards.
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills.
- Commitment to working safely and providing high‑quality service.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions.
- Valid Driver’s License and ability to operate a company vehicle.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Availability to travel and participate in on‑call rotations.
- Ability to work in a physically demanding outdoor environment and traverse rugged terrain.
- Frequent standing and walking; occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions (heat, cold, precipitation).
- Ability to travel to offsite locations for extended periods as needed.
- Willingness to work extended hours when project schedules require.

Lake Superior Consulting offers a competitive compensation package. The starting salary will be determined based on skills, experience, and location. The anticipated salary/hourly range is $25‑$29/hr.
