Adjunct Instructor - Electrical Trades

Fox Valley Technical College (FVTC) is seeking an Adjunct Instructor to facilitate student learning and develop instructional strategies that promote student success in electrical trades.

Position Summary

Adjunct Instructors are responsible for the facilitation of student learning and the ongoing development of instructional strategies that promote student success.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Learning Facilitation – Foster student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and support student engagement using hybrid, in‑person, virtual, and online course delivery.
  • Assessment – Assess student learning and provide regular feedback to help students succeed; use data to measure quality outcomes and implement improvement strategies.
  • Classroom Management – Maintain accurate attendance and grade records, ensure a safe instructional environment, and support student engagement evaluation.
  • Team Participation – Support the college by engaging with the department and staying current with internal and external changes and initiatives.
  • Business & Community Engagement – Build and maintain relationships with community, industry, and clinical partners; promote the College and its programs.
  • Student Success & Support – Advocate for students and collaborate with Student Services to retain students, close achievement gaps, and help all students succeed.
  • Professional Development – Continually improve knowledge and skills through professional development activities and current industry practice; maintain accreditation requirements and licensure.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate degree in a related field required.
  • Minimum of 4,000 hours in the field within the last five years (journey‑level industrial, commercial, and/or construction electrician). Experience as both a Construction Electrician and Industrial Electrician is preferred.
  • Teaching or training experience desirable.
  • Ability to plan, organize, instruct, and facilitate quality education programs.
  • Qualified per FVTC requirements during employment as an instructor.
  • Must meet and maintain Higher Learning Commission (HLC) requirements, Faculty Quality Assurance Standards (FQAS), and other job‑specific licensing standards.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements
  • Verifiable apprenticeship completion and current journey‑worker electrician card required.
  • Master Electrician Certification required.
  • Valid Driver’s License; subject to FVTC’s Motor Vehicle Records Check.
  • Proficiency utilizing learning management system.
  • Strong verbal communication skills; adapt quickly to changing demands.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with various audiences.
  • Engage in continuous improvement in instruction by embracing innovative methodologies.
  • Background check (criminal record) will be conducted; results considered in determining suitability.
Physical Requirements
  • Sitting – occasional periods while using computers.
  • Mobility – frequent movement to attend meetings and events.
  • Lifting and Carrying – occasional lifting of items up to 50 lbs.
  • Climbing – capacity to use stairs or ladders as needed.
  • Fine Motor Skills – precise hand movements for writing, demonstrations, and technology use.
  • Repetitive Motions – typing without discomfort.
  • Communication – clear verbal and written skills for interacting with staff and stakeholders.
  • Travel – may require off‑site teaching or professional development travel.
Work Environment
  • Work must be completed in person; virtual or hybrid options may also be available.
  • Worktypically performed in a classroom setting.
