Adjunct Instructor - Mathematics
Fox Valley Technical College (FVTC) is looking to establish a pool of qualified candidates to teach in the field of Mathematics. Adjunct faculty are dynamic partners for both students and the College, working collaboratively to ensure student success while modeling FVTC core values.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities- Learning Facilitation – Foster student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and support engagement. Create learning experiences that integrate multiple delivery methodologies and instructional technologies to maximize success, such as hybrid, in‑person, virtual, and online course delivery.
- Assessment – Assess student learning and provide regular feedback. Use data to measure quality outcomes related to persistence, retention, completion, course success, and learning, and design improvement strategies based on the evidence.
- Classroom Management – Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate attendance and grade records, maintain instructional environment with emphasis on safety, housekeeping, and equipment security, and ensure opportunities for student engagement evaluation.
- Team Participation – Support the college by engaging with the division, department, and team members, staying current with internal and external changes and initiatives.
- Business & Community Engagement – Build and maintain relationships with community, industry, and clinical partners. Proactively promote the College and its programs.
- Student Success & Support – Advocate for students and collaborate with Student Services staff to retain students, close achievement gaps, and help all students succeed.
- Professional Development – Continually improve knowledge and skills in emerging trends, current occupational practices, and teaching through professional development activities, networking with regional industry leaders, and integrating new techniques and technology. Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required for individual and program accreditation.
- Plan, develop, and implement appropriate instructional strategies, including alternative delivery strategies when appropriate.
- Assist and advise students on assignments, tests, grades, course content, and other academic matters.
- Research, develop, and administer skills assessments before, during, and after courses, emphasizing evaluation of student performance.
- Promote student success through timely communication, growth‑based feedback, and strategies that meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Comply with college policies on testing record keeping, advanced standing, timely grading, office hours, and counseling.
- Maintain professional currency and contribute to a collaborative culture across the College.
- Attend division, department, and advisory committee meetings as requested.
- Participate in staff development activities such as diversity awareness and technology training.
- Demonstrate a commitment to the college's mission, vision, and values.
- Education: A Master's degree in Mathematics or Math Education, or a Master's Degree with 18 graduate credits in Mathematics, or a Master's degree AND the appropriate licensure in Mathematics.
- Alternative consideration: Graduate‑level courses in the discipline/subfield and methods courses specifically for teaching the discipline/subfield may be considered for meeting the 18 graduate credit hour minimum.
- Proficiency utilizing a learning management system.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Adapt quickly to changing demands, assignments, and circumstances to meet student needs.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with various audiences.
- Engage in continuous improvement in instruction by embracing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods.
- Qualified per FVTC requirements at the time of, and throughout employment as an instructor. Must meet and maintain Higher Learning Commission (HLC) requirements, Faculty Quality Assurance Standards (FQAS), and other licensing standards.
