Adjunct Instructor – Airport Rescue Firefighting (Non‑Credit)

Fox Valley Technical College invites qualified instructors to teach airport rescue firefighting courses. Adjunct faculty work 8.75 hours per week and deliver both in‑person and hybrid instruction.

Job Summary

Instructors facilitate student learning and develop curriculum that meets student and employer needs. Instructional strategies promote student success and the program remains current and competency‑based.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Learning Facilitation – Develop instructional strategies that meet diverse student needs and support student engagement. Create learning experiences that integrate technologies and multiple delivery methods.
  • Assessment – Assess student learning and provide regular feedback. Use data to measure outcomes and design improvement strategies.
  • Curriculum Development – Continuously revise curriculum and instructional materials that are competency‑based and aligned with employer expectations.
  • Classroom Management – Maintain accurate attendance and grade records, create a safe instructional environment, and ensure course materials are available.
  • Team Participation – Engage in division, department, and team activities, including planning and budgeting.
  • Business & Community Engagement – Build relationships with community, industry, and clinical partners through advisory committees, meetings, and recruitment events.
  • Student Success & Support – Advise students on schedules, careers, internships, and other program information.
  • Professional Development – Improve knowledge and skills through professional development, networking with industry leaders, and integration of new techniques.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate Degree required (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
  • Five years of occupational experience in the relevant field, with at least one year in the past five years. One year of occupational experience may be waived if the individual has at least two years of recent post‑secondary teaching experience.
Licenses, Certifications and Other Requirements
  • Valid Driver’s License and subject to a motor vehicle records check.
  • State of Wisconsin Firefighter I certification.
  • Airport Firefighter and Driver/Operator ARFF certification.
  • Upon hire, obtain State of Wisconsin Fire Instructor II certification.
  • Class B CDL preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to adapt quickly to changing demands.
  • Technologically proficient and experienced with instructional technology.
  • Background check required prior to hire.
Work Environment
  • Location – Primarily in‑person at Fox Valley Technical College – PSTC and ARFF.
  • Classroom & Training Grounds – Duties performed indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions, daytime and nighttime hours.
  • Virtual Work – Some tasks may be completed in a hybrid or remote setting.
  • Training Conditions – Work may involve high‑traffic areas during live training exercises and the use of live fire equipment, burn buildings, drafting ponds, and other emergency vehicles.
  • Flexibility – The work environment may change based on college needs.
Physical Requirements
  • Sitting – Extended periods of sitting while performing tasks and utilizing computer systems.
  • Mobility – Occasional mobility may be necessary for attending meetings and events.
  • Lifting and Carrying – Occasional light to moderate lifting and carrying.
  • Climbing – Capability to climb stairs or ladders if applicable.
  • Fine Motor Skills – Precise hand movements for writing on a whiteboard or using instructional technology.
  • Repetitive Motions – Capacity to perform repetitive motions such as typing without discomfort.
  • Communication – Clear verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Travel – May require off‑site teaching, fieldwork, or travel for professional development.
  • Driving – Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a vehicle.
  • Other – Ability to wear PPE (fire protection equipment as needed).

Additional Information

Hourly pay rate: $45.00 per hour. Pay is based on experience, qualifications, education, and certifications.
