Inside Sales, Sales Representative
Appleton Marble & Granite Works is seeking a capable, personable office assistant with an interest in sales to join our family-owned cemetery monument business.
This position combines office support, customer service, and eventually sales. The ideal candidate must be organized and detail-oriented, but also confident and easygoing when talking with customers—both in person and on the phone. Empathy, patience, and good communication will be important as future sales duties are introduced. General knowledge of Wisconsin geography is helpful.
Office responsibilities include:
- Reading daily obituaries in direct emails and newspapers
- Searching our database and locating matching paper records
- Internet searches for family contact info
- Filing and organizing archived records
- Answering phones and greeting customers
- Communicating with funeral homes and family members
- General office and administrative support
- Using Microsoft Access and internet-based record searches
Sales responsibilities would eventually include:
- Making outbound sales calls to potential clients
- Greeting and assisting customers interested in monuments and memorials
- Learning our products and services and helping customers understand their options
- Preparing quotes and assisting with sales follow-up
- Following up with prospective customers and existing accounts
- Developing and maintaining relationships with funeral homes and other clients
- Helping customers through the process from initial inquiry through purchase
The ideal candidate is friendly, dependable, and confident. You should be comfortable making outbound phone calls and developing relationships, while also being patient and empathetic with families who are making important and sometimes difficult decisions.
Previous office and customer service experience is required. Sales experience is a plus. Computer skills are a must, with fundamental working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Experience with Microsoft Access is a plus. Experience in the monument, funeral, or cemetery industry is not required—we will teach you the business.
Occasionally, the position will require using a step stool or ladder to retrieve archived paper records.
This is a good opportunity for someone who enjoys a small-business environment, meaningful customer interactions, and a position with room to grow. 30 hours per week to start, Monday–Friday, with the potential to transition to full-time as sales responsibilities develop. Compensation includes an hourly wage plus eventual commission.
